Prognosticators

This illustration from the 1526 edition of Johannes Lichtenberger’s Prognosticatio shows five key figures of the art of prognostication: Ptolemy (author of the Almagest), Aristotle (author of the Physics), a representative of those ancient Sibyls honoured by pagans and Christians alike for their prophetic ability, Bridget of Sweden (c.1303 – 1373), and Reynhardus, possibly the author of the lost Liber Multarum Tribulationum, all operating under the supervision of Christ.
